Mookaite (also spelled Mookite or Mookalite) is an Australian jasper found only at Mooka Station in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia. It forms from the skeletal remains of microscopic organisms (radiolaria) that accumulated in ancient seabeds, creating a silica-rich rock known as chert or radiolarite. The name comes from the Aboriginal word mooka, meaning running waters. Its distinctive palette of reds, yellows, purples, and creams is unique to this location.

Care: Generally safe for handling and water contact. Not recommended for prolonged soaking. Polished surfaces may scratch if stored with harder minerals.

  • Origin Story

Mookaite (also spelled Mookite or Mookalite) is an Australian jasper found only at Mooka Station in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia. It forms from the skeletal remains of microscopic organisms (radiolaria) that accumulated in ancient seabeds, creating a silica-rich rock known as chert or radiolarite. • Scientific Info

Mookaite is a variety of radiolarite — a siliceous sedimentary rock composed largely of the silica tests (shells) of radiolarians, single-celled marine organisms. It is classified mineralogically as a form of chalcedony or chert, with a composition primarily of microcrystalline SiO2. Mohs hardness is 6 to 7. Its range of colors results from varying concentrations of iron oxide and other mineral impurities.

  • Ancient Myths

Mookaite is found only in Western Australia and is considered a sacred stone by some Aboriginal Australian communities, regarded as carrying the energy of the land itself and the memory of ancient ancestors who lived across that country for tens of thousands of years. and In modern crystal traditions, mookaite is associated with the dreamtime — the foundational Aboriginal concept of creation and spiritual existence — honoring its deep roots in one of the oldest living cultures on earth.

  • Affirmation

I am alive with the energy of the ancient earth. I move through life with courage and curiosity, grounded in my strength and open to new paths. I carry the vitality and wisdom of the land within me.
