About Peppermint

Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) is a natural hybrid of watermint and spearmint, first recorded as a distinct plant in England in the late 1600s. Its dark green, toothed leaves hold an essential oil rich in menthol, the compound behind its unmistakable cool, sharp scent. In folk magic, Scott Cunningham lists its powers as purification, sleep, love, healing and psychic powers, and notes that its scent was believed to lift the energy of a place. Dried, it is used in smoke cleansing, sachets, dream pillows and altar work.
