Flower Jasper is a trade name for a warm, patterned jasper — a member of the vast chalcedony family in which microscopic quartz forms wherever silica-rich water collects. Its 'flowers' are small radiating mineral growths and inclusions, captured mid-bloom as the stone hardened, then revealed when it is cut and polished. Jasper in general has accompanied people since the Neolithic period, worked into tools, seals, amulets, and ornaments across nearly every ancient culture.

Flower Jasper is an opaque, fine-grained variety of jasper, itself a form of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz). It is composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO2) with iron oxide, manganese, and clay-mineral impurities that produce its cream, brown, gray, and rose tones and its characteristic floral markings. Some material sold under this name is orbicular jasper or silicified rhyolite. It rates roughly 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, takes a high polish, and breaks with a conchoidal fracture.
