Dalmatian Stone is an igneous rock of pale feldspar and quartz dusted with black arfvedsonite spots, mined chiefly in Chihuahua, Mexico. Long sold as a jasper though it is not one, it earns its name from the unmistakable resemblance to a Dalmatian dog's coat. In practice it is a working stone, valued less for rarity than for the steadying, mood-lifting company it keeps.
