About Citrine

Citrine is the yellow to golden-brown variety of quartz, ranging from pale lemon to deep Madeira orange. Hellenistic Greeks prized it, Roman carvers cut it into engraved gems, and mid-nineteenth-century Scotland set it into brooches and kilt pins after Queen Victoria made it fashionable. Traders later named it the Merchant's Stone for its place beside the till. Natural citrine is uncommon, and much of what is sold today is heat-treated amethyst, a distinction worth knowing when you choose a piece.

Good to know

Also known as Citrine Quartz, Merchant's Stone, Madeira CitrineCare Citrine is quartz: stable, non-toxic, and safe to handle or rinse briefly. Long exposure to strong sunlight can pale some pieces, so store it out of direct sun, and avoid sudden temperature changes, which can crack quartz.
